Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, U.K. (awarded November 1999) 

Awarded  a 1 year fully funded departmental scholarship for an MPhil postgraduate degree program (academic year -  1996 -97) to investigate on the possibility of developing a Virtual Manufacturing system for the designing and planning of cable harnesses. Subsequently was recommended by the department for upgrading to Ph.D. student status and was also awarded a 3 years Overseas Research Scholarship (ORS) and a University Scholarship to further the research. Industrial partners are NCR, Dundee, KinLoch Electronics, Glasgow and Division, Bristol.

Final year project: Classification & Coding package using AutoLisp, F. M. Ng., J.M. Ritchie. (supervisor).  Used AutoLISP programming language to develop an inexpensive, interactive, user-friendly visual CAD Classification & Coding and Retrieval software package based on the Opitz Coding manual for families of similar parts.

Responsibilities include leading, enthusing and motivating a team of resourceful and creative executive committee members to revamp the Society's image, organise and plan activities that are aimed towards creating a greater awareness of the South East Asian identity and heritage, forging camaraderie among Society's members, local and international students, spearheaded and constantly forging greater links with other student associations to organise joint events. Initiated the creation of our Society's website where members can associate themselves with. 
  • Assisted in organizing and planning trips and tours throughout the United Kingdom for Singaporeans as well as international students studying at Heriot-Watt University. Travelled widely in the U.K. and France.
