PROFILE
A
creative, dynamic, adaptable and autonomous person, specialised in signal and
image processing, used to working in multicultural environments, I am keen to
apply and develop my research and teaching skills on challenging projects
within a dynamic organisation.
EDUCATION:
1992 -1996 PhD
in Computing and electrical engineering. Study and realisation of an optical
joint transform correlator based on FLC technology for real-time pattern
recognition. Applications to road sign and fingerprint recognition.
1994 - 1995 Masters
of Science (French DEA) in Electrical
Engineering. (Université de Bretagne Occidentale), National Superior School
of Telecommunication of Britany -ENSTBr).
1992 - 1995 Engineering
Diploma of the National Superior School of Telecommunications. 3rd year

EXPERIENCE:
Nov 2000-now Lecturer at Heriot-Watt University, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences. Research and Teaching in image processing including texture & shape analysis, segmentation & classification of sonar and video images, simultaneous mapping & localisation and navigation. I also have a particular interest in mine dectection and classification using image based statistical techniques. I am principal investigator of CONSENSUS (EPSRC First Grant Scheme GR/16980/01),a MM Wave Imaging project (EPSRC GR/S68088/01) and co-investigator of the Framework V AUTOTRACKER project (osbtacle avoidance and acoustic pipe tracking using an AUV) and of the Framework V Amason project (Data fusion of sonar data products for seabed classification and habitat mapping).
I am also currently director
of SeeByte, a spin-out company of the Oceans Systems laboratory.
1997-2000 Research Associate,
Ocean Systems Lab, Heriot-Watt University. Sonar image analysis and vehicle
control (Path planning) for unmanned underwater vehicles, within the EU funded
ARAMIS project.
1996-1997 Software Engineer. Alcatel Telecom (BREST)
Software development on PABX for export country specific adaptations. This was
part of a huge project (200 people) and the software was developed in C and
C++.
1996-1997 Research Associate / PhD Student, ENST de Bretagne (BREST), Optics department.Realisation of a
nonlinear joint transform correlator for roadsign and fingerprint recognition
(European project ESPRIT III HICOPOS and HICOPIA). I was also in charge of the
system administration of the department.
1991-1992 Teaching Assistant at Ecole Navale. Military service as a teaching assistant in signal and
image processing at the Ecole Navale (Navy officers training school).
1991 Final year project at British Telecom, Ipswitch (GB). 4 month training period in the speech
processing department. Evaluation of a neural network for speech recognition on large databases.
1990 Summer placement at Thomson CSF,
Malakoff (FR). 2 month training period at THOMSON CSF (Paris,FR). Study of
adaptive neural antennas for improved discrimination of radar signals.
