Research Activity in Tribo-Mechanical Evaluations of Ceramics and Steels

 

Rolling contact fatigue, sliding wear and abrasive wear evaluations of engineering ceramics and steels form a part of this activity. Wear mapping and investigation of failure modes under various tribological configurations are some of the key issues in this research. Typical applications include hybrid ceramic bearings, gears and dies. An example of stress risers governing the rolling contact fatigue in conventional steel and hybrid ceramic configuration of roller bearings is shown in the Figure 1 below.
