康桥，就是剑桥。徐志摩为剑桥写下的美丽诗句曾让多少人为之动心。

到剑桥不游剑河，等于没到剑桥。剑河是流动的历史，有剑河才有剑桥，有剑桥才有剑桥大学。剑河泛舟最是美妙。剑桥的灵气全在这条河上。

剑河是一条南北走向微微弯曲，垂柳沿岸的小河。剑河不宽，也不深，但确实很美，水流轻柔缓慢，柔波金光点点，美得恬静，美得矜持，美得高贵。她从原野中静悄悄流入小城，穿过一个个古老的学院，又静悄悄地流向远方。剑河很浅，清澈见底，水中鱼儿清晰可见。不論是夏綠或秋黃，劍河，總是那样徐徐自得、柔情万种。

The River Cam runs through Cambridge (and there is indeed a bridge over it ... several, now!), and these long, thin boats called 'punts' are popular in the summer with students and tourists. The River Cam has been navigable since (at least) Roman times. There are numerous bridges over the river in the city but the one carrying Magdalene Street is "the" Cam bridge.

坐船篙撑的平底小船，慢慢的欣赏大学城的风景点，早已成为剑桥的传统和特色。乘上细长的小舟，一会儿经过古老建筑的墙根，一会儿经过芳草如茵的绿地，一会儿经过凉风习习的浓荫，一会儿经过五彩缤纷的花园。最绝的，是那一座座形态各异的小桥，有独孔桥，也有三孔桥，有石桥，也有木桥。还有著名的数学桥，叹息桥。

叹息桥 (bridge of signs)

這個取名是為了紀念威尼斯的那座嘆息橋。剑桥的“叹息桥”不像威尼斯的那座同名兄弟是由市政厅的法庭通向水牢，而是由教室通向考场，每次临考前没有准备好总要在叹息桥上长叹一声。劍橋的橋上都有鐵欄裝置，過去是為了阻止大學部的學生貪玩樂不思蜀，半夜才偷偷爬過小橋返回宿舍。又有种说法是，传说中剑桥的女学生常常经过这座桥外出同恋人幽会，激情难抑，回来晚了又常被校方发现，为了不让学生影响学习，校方就令其思过，并用铁栅栏封住了桥。因而，热恋中的学生，每每经过此桥时，便不由感叹爱的艰难和无奈，故而在桥上叹息。现在，新来的学生都要经过叹息桥，因为据说只有如此，才能确保毕业时拿到学位。哎，这才真是让人叹息！

The Bridge of Signs is in St John's College: The Bridge of Sighs - inspired by the famous bridge in Venice over which codemned prisoners sighed as they were led to their deaths! Best viewed from St John's Old Bridge, it is one of Cambridge's more popular tourist attractions. Unlike its namesake in Venice, the barred windows are designed to prevent students entering at night, rather than to escape!

数学桥 (Mathematical Bridge in Queen College)

数学桥，又称牛顿桥。相传牛顿采用数学和力学的方法设计并建造了这座桥，桥上没有用一颗钉子。牛顿的学生认为：牛顿能做到的事，牛顿的学生也能够做到。他们把这座桥拆了，可是怎么也不能把这座桥不用钉子恢复成牛顿老师建筑的原样，最后不得不用钉子才重新将木桥架好。实际上，这座桥是英国桥梁设计大师威廉·埃期里奇在女王学院就读时的作品，而负责建造的是詹姆斯·埃塞克斯，因为它的桥身相邻桁架之间构成构成11。25 度的夹角，在18世纪时，这种设计被称为几何结构，所以它被称为数学桥。

The Mathematical Bridge is located at Queens College. It is a wooden bridge. There is a story that Sir Newton design and constructured this bridge without using any bolts and fit together perfectly, based on his mathematical model. However, his student did not believe it, and took it apart to see how it was done. He couldn't get it back together again without the use of bolts. Of course, this is only a tale. The Mathematical Bridge has been there for 250 years. It was built in 1749 by James Essex the Younger (1722-1784) to the design of William Etheridge (1707-1776). It has subsequently been rebuilt to the same design in 1866 and 1905. For those who have fallen prey to the baseless stories told by unscrupulous guides to gullible tourists, it is necessary to point out that Isaac Newton died in 1727 and therefore cannot possibly have had anything to do with this Bridge. Anyone who believes that students or Fellows could have disassembled the Bridge (and then failed to re-assemble it, as the myth runs) cannot have a serious grasp on reality, given the size and weight of the wooden members of the Bridge. The joints of the present Bridge are fastened by nuts and bolts. Earlier versions of the Bridge used coach screws at the joints, driven in from the outer elevation. Only a pedant could claim that the Bridge was originally built without nails. Other baseless stories are that Etheridge had been a student, and/or had visited China.

Clare college bridge is also quite famous since there is a stonework left unfinished by the disgruntled, underpaid architect.

剑河泛舟 (punting in the Cam River)

撑篙船(punting)是夏日剑桥的一大盛事。“撑一竿长篙，向青草更青处漫朔”，看似轻盈，其实船体细长无桨，全凭长篙左右逢源，一竿子下去，深了原地打转，浅了能把你闪滑下来，遇到Clare桥这样的关口，往往四面都是船，撞个人仰马翻不足为奇。好在剑河撑舟已是剑桥学生们的乐事，各个练得弓马娴熟。

Punting in Cambridge

A punt is a narrow flat-bottomed boat that somewhat resembles a Venetian gondola with the curve removed. Punts generally seat up to four adults while a fifth person stands at the rear and propels the boat with a long pole.

The design was developed in the medieval period to allow for easy navigation in areas with shallow water. Until recently punts were used by commercial fishermen working the fens of East Anglia, but today they are almost exclusively used for recreation.

Poling along the river looks effortless and easy; a relaxing way to enjoy a quiet summer afternoon. Looks can be deceiving however, as steering a punt is neither as easy or effortless as it looks. For one thing, the pole can get stuck in the mud of the river bottom, and steering from the rear of a punt takes skill and dexterity.

Unless you are remarkably well co-ordinated, your first few attempts to direct a punt in a straight line will provide some entertainment for onlookers on the banks. Don't worry, it doesn't take long to get the hang of things, and it really is a great deal of fun!
